So, this post is what I've researched and/or what makes sense to me. I have also organized my arguments into bullet points for the sake of me not rambling. Thank you for reading, and enjoy!
1.Five Nights At Freddy's 2 took place in 1987
-Date on the check you receive upon finishing the game, which is "11-12-97"
-Not much else to say really--
2. FNAF 2 Takes place before FNAF 1
-The date of the check in FNAF 1 is "11-13-xx"
-There's no mention of the "Bite of '87" in FNAF 2, Which might indicate that the bite hasn't happened yet.
3. "Wait, if FNAF 2 is prequel to FNAF 1, how are the "Old" animatronics there?"
-The closest I've gotten to an answer for this would be that there was another diner before The one in FNAF 2.
4."So what about the killer? Who is he?"
(You can't believe how much I've researched this one..lol)
-It is the most of the fandom's belief and acceptance that purple guy is the killer.
*In the death minigames, you'll see a purple colored figure. this is our friend PG. In the mini game "Give the cake to the children", you'll see PG come up to the crying child outside, and wait until the child turns blue. This may indicate that he was poisoned, or suffocated. (I've also grown fond of the headcannon that purple guy didn't hear the child following him when he was delivering the cake to the children, and it was accidental that he had to murder the 5th child, since he only needed 4 children for the animatronics in FNAF 1.
*In the mini game when you played as foxy, you went to the children in the party room 3 times. the first two times were normal, and the third time purple guy is standing outside pirate cove, and when you get to the party room, all of the children are dead. This also brings me to my next point:
5. Purple guy is phone guy!
-I say this because well, purple guy's sprite looks like he's holding a phone (Or a purple banana...)
-He also mentions on night 2 in FNAF 2 that his favorite animatronic is foxy, and purple guy as mentioned before, is standing outside pirate's cove in the mini game.
6. "Who's the marionette? What did the 5th child's body get put into?" (This I have not done a lot of research on)
-In my eyes, I see the marionette actually being the mother. If you've heard The Living Tombstone's song "It's been so long", this talks about the mother loosing her child at Freddy's, committing suicide and becoming the marionette.
*I see this because the marionette is much too small to fit a body into, even a small child's
*If the marionette "Pulls the strings", it makes sense that they would listen to an adult. Think about how kids talk to eachother, how if someone tells someone else to do something, they'll respond with "You can't tell me what to do!" but, when an adult tells them what to do, they'll usually respond with respect.
